Jake Hudnut's Statement on Police Union Protests

September 26, 2017

Jersey City - Jake Hudnut, candidate for Jersey City Council (Ward E), released the following statement on the recent police union protests:

"This month Jersey City Police union members have twice protested Mayor Fulop for politicizing the police department. I agree. We have not had a police chief for 117 days and counting. In four years zero community policing initiatives were implemented. Instead we've seen outdated policing tactics amped-up in raids coinciding with Fulop's earlier gubernatorial ambitions. We need a police chief and we need community policing now. Getting officers out of their cruisers and into the community on their feet and on bikes improves relations, aids crime solving, enhances quality of life in our neighborhoods, and ultimately reduces crime. Community policing is a data-driven policy that works. Jersey City needs it now. This is what I will fight for on City Council"
